Beaufort clinch dramatic win

IT'S not just Bayern Munich who failed from the penalty spot this weekend.

Lebeq continued their disappointing run of results in penatly shootouts by going down 4-3 to Beaufort in the Sid Rummins Cup at Crown Field, Keynsham.

Lebeq, the Bristol Sunday League Premier Division champions were held to a 3-3 after 90 minutes in the final.

And extra time failed to see either of the teams take the advantage which meant the drama of a penalty shootout.

This was the fourth successive defeat on penalties for teams based at the Stapleton Road pub.

They had failed to lift any silverware from the finals of the Fry Club Cup, the Hanham Charity Shield and the GFA Sunday Minor Cup this season.

Lebeq twice took the lead with goals from Jim Billings (2) and Tony Perry, only to be pegged back by replies from Ryan Bath (2) and Twaine Plummer for Beaufort to force extra time.

Beaufort were runners-up in the Premier Division table on goal difference to Lebeq and neither side were able to find a winning goal in extra time.

The nail-biting shootout saw Beaufort's keeper John Kerley make a fine save to give his side the advantage.

Then it was up to Beaufort's Alex Lambert to net the decider to clinch the trophy, much to the delight of long-serving secretary Bob Trow.
