Charlotte's plan for gingerbread storybook

A KNOWLE schoolgirl is encouraging Bristolians to come up with interesting tales of a runaway gingerbread man so she can compile a book.

Charlotte Geraghty, six, started following the adventures of the Gingerbread Man after a school project.

She received hundreds of postcards detailing the escapades of the gingerbread biscuit that ran away and raised £90 for a Bristol children's charity in her first year and then decided to repeat the project last summer in support of the Cots for Tots Appeal for the special care baby unit at St Michael's.

Now she wants to take her project a step further by compiling a book of stories about the Gingerbread Man to raise more money for the charity.

And she is appealing for more people to send in their tales of the adventurous biscuit to feature in the book.

Charlotte's mum Claire said: "After receiving lots of postcards last summer, with the help of easyJet and also sightings sent to her by email we put them into a scrapbook for her to read.

"Charlotte asked 'Why can't these be in a real book so my friends at school can laugh at the stories too?'."

Mrs Geraghty said Charlotte has been writing to famous people asking them if they could send her a sighting of her friend and has contacted well-known locations in Bristol to see if they can help out.

"Although Charlotte has received some great responses from places in Bristol, it's not as many as we had hoped for. We are hoping to have all her gingerbread friend's adventures made into a book to raise money for the appeal", she said.

If you can help Charlotte out by sending her a letter or postcard featuring details of the Gingerbread Man's exploits visit www.justgiving.com/Gingerbreadchallenge.
